Nahr el Bared crisis benefits hashish growers: the army is busy elsewhere. 4,500 hectares planted in Hermel and the Bekaa. The harvest season is almost here: people are asking: if they are going to destroy our crop, why wait till it is ready for harvest. Apparently the army has been unable to destroy the crops because nobody would rent them their tractors: They still owe local people 200 million lira ($133,000) from the eradication campaign of 2005.
