"In 1919, the Zionist delegation at the Paris Peace Conference said the Golan Heights, Jordan valley, what is now the West Bank, as well as Lebanon's river Litani were "essential for the necessary economic foundation of the country. Palestine must have... the control of its rivers and their headwaters"."

The Litani River remains undeveloped as a water resource almost 50 years after its dam was built.
It is today nothing but a means to carry away waste and to generate electricity for the urban rich with its water primarily dumped into the sea. The farmers who sacrificed their land to Lake Qaroun have never realized the promise of irrigation and the fishermen are no longer able to market its polluted fish.
The neglect of the Litani and the Mount Hermon watershed has to stop now before it is too late.
