Change?

"WASHINGTON - Despite reports in US media that Illinois Democratic Rep. Rahm Emanuel has accepted US president-elect Barack Obama's offer to serve as White House chief of staff, a source close to Emanuel told Ynet he has not yet accepted and was still considering the offer due to personal and family reasons.

Emanuel is the son of American Jew and Israeli immigrant Dr. Benjamin Emanuel. The source told Ynet on Wednesday, "Emanuel is pro-Israeli, and would not be willing to consider accepting the job unless he was convinced that President-elect Obama is pro-Israel."" (Thanks Marcy)

Well of course he is pro-Israel, he has said so on many occasions. However, I have hopes that he will have a different way of expressing this support than his predecessors, which (although I still don't agree with the support), might make a whole lot of difference in the chances of war or no war...

Nonetheless I am very disappointed in his choice...

Democracy Now has an excellent report, "President-Elect Obama and the Future of US Foreign Policy: A Roundtable Discussion". You can watch it on their website (below). Especially articulate on the problems of having Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff, and more telling, Obama's distancing himself from anyone who might be considered pro- Palestinian is Ali Abunimah. At 23 min. you will hit on the interview with Abunimah.

As an American, the only way Obama can realize his potential is if the entire world, all peoples, accept the concept that everyone deserves the right be who they want to be, without trying to force others to accept their way of life. This is must be accepted by all religions, countries, within countries, cultures and ethnic backgrounds. If we continuen the idea of extracting "Payment" or "Revenge" for wrongs of the past, will do nothing but continue the ugliness of the past.
